The Hillsboro volleyball team picked up a key conference win on Tuesday, Oct. 15, beating Vandalia in three sets.
After the Vandals slipped by the Toppers 25-22 in the opening set, Hillsboro rallied to take a 28-26 thriller in set number two. With momentum in their favor, the Toppers closed out their fifth conference win of the season with a 25-17 victory.
Kayli Ward and Kaci Papin both came up big at the net with double digit kill totals. Ward finished with 15 kills, while Papin added 11. Reagan DeVashier and Jordan Jacobs had 29 assists, with DeVashier leading the team with 17.
Hillsboro did well on the defensive end at the net as well, with Emma Miller posting four blocks, Haley Major and Emily Reynolds adding three apiece and Papin and Chloe Beck contributing two each. Further back, Ally Devore had 13 digs, while Major contributed 12.
On the serving line, Beck picked up nine points with two aces, while Reynolds (eight), Major (seven), DeVashier (six) and Devore (four) all had multiple points.
Now 15-8 on the season, Hillsboro will look to win their sixth conference game on Thursday, Oct. 17, as they play Carlinville on the Cavies' home court. Carlinville is 4-2 in the South Central with losses to Pana and Staunton, while Hillsboro is 5-1 with a loss to Staunton.
