Hollis Duncan, 86, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, after a long illness at Hillsboro Rehab and Health Care Center.
A graveside funeral service for Mr. Dunwill be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester, TN.
Mr. Duncan was born May 1, 1937 in Manchester, TN, to the late Henry Thomas and Effie Beatrice (Elliott) Duncan. After moving with his family to Chicago from Tennessee as a teen, he worked in many of Chicago’s factories as a skilled laborer including Electric-Motive Diesel. After moving to Litchfield in the early seventies, he and his brothers started Duncan Brothers Septic Service.
Mr. Duncan was a proficient Bluegrass banjo picker in the style of Lester Flatt and Earl Scroggs and cherished his gold-plated Gibson banjo. He and his brothers, all accomplished musicians, spent their life entertaining on professional stage settings and churches to nursing homes and family gatherings. He enjoyed working with wood and metal and could make anything from tools to toys.
Mr. Duncan was a member of Litchfield Southern Baptist Church and counted many good friends in the area including Honey Bend where he came to live after first arriving in the area. He was a forgive and forget Christian that lived a simple but happy life.
He is survived by his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Duncan was preceded in death by his wife Veronica; brothers Roy “Ken”, Carl and his twin Horace; and sisters Helen Woolum and Doris Robak and their spouses.
