Howard Shines As New Old Settlers Queen

Caitlyn Howard, the daughter of Josh and Stefanie Howard, was crowned queen of the 2019 Old Settlers celebration during ceremonies on the big stage in downtown Hillsboro Wednesday evening, Aug. 7.

The new queen also won the Miss Photogenic award.  She was sponsored by the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge–their second queen in the last three years–and escorted by Charlie Page.  She was driven up Main Street in the Queens Parade by her father.

Brianna Stephens was first runner-up.  She is the daughter of Kelly Stephens and was sponsored by the Hillsboro Moose Lodge.  She was escorted on stage by John Downs and driven in the parade by Adam Hammers.

Morgan Schaake, daughter of John and Carrie Schaake, was voted Miss Congeniality.  She was sponsored by Imagine Hillsboro, escorted by Melanie Sherer, and driven by Steve Jacobs.

Also on the Old Settlers queen's court were Josie Havens, daughter of Kevin and Christal Havens and Felicia and Matthew Blanton.  She was sponsored by CTI Fiber, escorted by Dustin Jones, and driven in the parade by Rod Stewart.  Erin Moore, the daughter of Chris Moore and Louie Moore, was sponsored by the Hillsboro Lions Club, escorted by Bryant Hitchings, and driven in the parade by her father.  Malorie Scurlock, daughter of John and Maggie Scurlock, was sponsored by the Hillsboro Rotary Club, escorted by Steve Cullison, and driven by Tracy Clarkson.

The new queen was crowned by 2018 Old Settlers Queen Kelly Jansen, daughter of Wayne and Tina Jansen.

Her mother, the 1989 Old Settlers Queen, escorted the 2018 queen on stage.  Both were driven by Bob Calvert in the same 1967 Ford Mustang convertible that the 1989 queen rode in 30 years ago.  This year, the car made its 45th trip up Main Street in an Old Settlers Queens Parade.

Newly-crowned 2019 Old Settlers Queen Howard was joined on stage by Junior Miss Lucy Moxey and Little Miss Adalynn Hollo, both crowned during pageants on Old Settlers Sunday.  The 2019 Little Miss is the daughter of Jeffery Hollo and Kristin King, was escorted on stage by her father, and driven in the parade by Deidre Langston.

The 2019 Junior Miss, the daughter of Tommy and Jessica Moxey, was also escorted by her father and was driven in the parade by Bob Jurkeshek.

During her retirement speech, 2018 Queen Jansen announced that this years court sold over $19,000 in raffle tickets.

Rachel Garde won the $750 grand prize, Garrett Schaake won the $500 first prize, and Jim Brinkman won the $250 second prize.
