Irene Hawley, 81

Irene Hurd Hawley, 81, of Butler, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, at  Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Ware’s Grove Cemetery in Butler. Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mrs. Hawley was born on April 1, 1942, in Moss Point, MS, to Alfred Hurd and Cecelia Lyons Hurd. She married Ronald Hawley, Sr., on Feb. 20, 1965, at Union Baptist Church in Grand Bay, AL.

Mrs. Hawley graduated from Moss Point High School then attended Perkinston Jr. College, then she received her degree in home economics from Southern Mississippi. She worked for the Home Extension 4-H office, and was employed as a dietitian at Hawthorne Manor, both in Hillsboro. Later, Mrs. Hawley owned and operated Kathryn’s Floral in Hillsboro. She also worked at Walmart in Litchfield and as a substitute teacher in Hillsboro.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hawley is survived by two sons, Ronald (Beverly) Hawley Jr. of South Elgin, Robert (Debbie) Hawley of Brighton; sister, Jane (Warren) Sims of Forts Lake, MS; brothers, Al (Belinda) Hurd of Cropwell, AL, and Louis (Betty) Hurd of Moss Point; three granddaughters,Tiffany, Beth and Brandi; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Olivia and Cameron; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and four sisters, Adelaide Doherty, Linda Smith, Anne Bradley and Faye McCary.
