Irma Marie Whiteside, 88, of Litchfield, formerly of Sorento, died on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at 12:02 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Private family funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Burial will follow in Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento.

Mrs. Whiteside was born Dec. 28, 1931, in rural Pocahontas, to Fred William and Bertha L. (Brave) Scharf. She married David Eugene Whiteside on July 23, 1952, in Greenville, and he preceded her in death on June 1, 2010.

She owned and operated her catering and cake decorating business called “Irma’s”. She also helped her husband with their milk hauling business and served as school cook in Sorento for the Bond County Unit School District #2.

Mrs. Whiteside was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Litchfield. She enjoyed volunteering her time for the HSHS St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by her son, Ron (Gay) Whiteside of Sorento; two stepgrandchildren, Amy Thorpe and Chissy Henning; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Timber Thorpe, Austin Henning and Sierra Henning.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Whiteside was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Scharf in infancy; and two sisters, Bernadine Lange and Dorothy Scharf.
