Jack Michael, 95, died on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, at at his home in Ohlman.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow, at noon at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Pana. Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Nokomis is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Michael was born on October 18, 1924, in the Mt. Pulaski/Macon County area. His father moved the family to the Salem area when Jack was a child. Mr. Michael married Pearl Marie Presgrove on April 14, 1944, while on leave from Army training. 

When he returned to his duties, he served in Europe during WWII as a driver for Head Quarters  assigned to the first MASH units as they were introduced during the war. After finishing his tour of duty, he returned home to the Iuka area.

He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic in the rock quarries, in the Salem area. In 1951, he moved his young family to Ohlman to help open the Nokomis rock quarry.  After 15 years he moved to the Hulcher rock quarry, where he worked as superintendent before it became Material Services. Mr. Michael enjoyed restoring classic cars in his retirement. He restored a 1929 Model A Ford Sedan, a 1939 Ford Mercury and a 1930 Model A Ford Coupe.

 Mr. Michael is survived by his son, Jim Michael of Wichita, KS; grand-daughter, Sarah (Brian) Britton of Sullivan; great-granddaughters, Amanda (Chad Clark) Britton and Alexis Britton; great-great-granddaughter, Ella Madelyn Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and son, Glen.
