Mr. Snyder was born April 14, 1940, in Armington, to George Myron and Maxine (Turner) Snyder. He married Mary Louise Bruntjen on June 25, 1961, in Harvel, and she survives.
He was a lifelong farmer on the family farm south of Raymond, where they raised their family. He was a grain and livestock farmer for over 60 years, working alongside his dad, brothers and sons well into his 70s.
Mr. Snyder loved being around his large family. At family gatherings, he could usually be found at the head of a pinochle table, throwing a baseball around with his grandkids or catching a game on TV.
He was an avid sports fan. In his younger years, he was quite the baseball and basketball player, and in later years, he was the biggest supporter of all of his kids and grandkids, rarely missing a game. Beyond that, his love for St. Louis Cardinal baseball and Fighting Illini basketball ran deep.
In the spring, Mr. Snyder could often be found hunting morel mushrooms somewhere on his land, a hobby that he passed on to future generations. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity and love of family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Curtis “Curt” (wife Sheila) Snyder of Alton, Kendall (wife Laura) Snyder, Marla (husband Ty) Herman, both of Raymond, and Brandon (wife Donna) Snyder of Springfield; 16 grandchildren, Jayme (husband Nick) Foor, Andrew (wife Stephanie) Snyder, Cory Snyder, Kyle (wife Hannah) Snyder, Lukas (wife Danielle) Leonard, Jacob Leonard, Cameron (wife Emily) Snyder, Tate (fianee Lauren Pitchford) Snyder, Reese Snyder, Sydney Herman, Samuel Herman, Faith Snyder, Jessica Snyder, Jonah Snyder, Shaniah Snyder and Caden Snyder; seven great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Tom “Dean” (wife Norma) Snyder of Springfield, Larry “Bud” (wife Linda) Snyder and Randall “Randy” (wife Christa) Snyder, both of Raymond.
Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his parents.
