James B. Greenwood, 80

James Byrle Greenwood, 80, of Litchfield, died on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 3:30 a.m. at Heritage Health: Therapy and Senior Care in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 29, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Funeral Mass will follow, beginning at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Daniel Willenborg officiating. Burial will be held in Crabtree Cemetery in Litchfield with military honors.

Mr. Greenwood was born Aug. 1, 1938, in Greenview, to Geo and Regina Sara (Wilson) Greenwood. He married Geraldine Mae Rundle in 1957, and they later divorced. He then married Norma June (Weber) Black on Aug. 20, 1979, in New Orleans, LA, and she survives.

He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sullivan DD537. During his career, he worked in the automobile chassis division at A.O. Smith Corporation for 25 years. He then was employed at Pillsbury Flour Mills in Springfield and retired from Brink's Armored Security Car Co.

Mr. Greenwood was a life member and past commander of VFW Post #3912 of Litchfield and served on the color guard team for several years. He enjoyed boating and camping at Lake Lou Yaeger, and cooking for large groups.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael (Michele) Greenwood of Springfield and Dr. Ronald Greenwood, PhD. of St. Thomas, V.I.; two stepsons, Gary (Patty) Black and Denny (Nancy) Black, both of Litchfield; a daughter, Mary (David) Wallace of Litchfield; two sisters, Barbara (David) Rentz and Nancy Tierce, both of Litchfield; nine grandchildren, Steven (Mercedes) Greenwood, Jennifer (Brad) Young, Terri (Shane) Durston, Amanda Durston, Melissa Crabtree, Sarah (Ron) Gelsinger, Michael (Lauren) Wallace, stepgrandson Riley Hinds and stepgranddaughter Sharon (Kevin) Pokorney; 16 great-grandchildren, Addie Mae, Zoey Isabella and Mabry Jo Greenwood, Eli, Elizabeth and Logan Pokorney, Joseph, Noah and Zack Young, Caitlyn (Shawn) Durston, Lucas Weller, Sydney Crabtree, Charleigh Dossett, Carlee Gelsinger, Olivia Rose and Owen Michael Wallace; two great-great-grandchildren, Paisley Grace and Brilyn Rose Titsworth.

Mr. Greenwood was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Dave Hart; daughter, Kelly Durston and her husband, Danny Durston; and four great-grandbaby angels.
