James "Jim" D. Summers, Sr., 63, of Coffeen, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at 4:45 a.m. at his residence.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Chaplain Dan Shreve of Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro officiating. Burial will be held in Coffeen.

Mr. Summers was born Feb. 19, 1956, in Somers Point, NJ, the son of the late Lee M. and Alice M. (Collamer) Summers. He married Donna Jones in Sept. 1975, and she survives.

He was a 1974 graduate of Absegami High School in Galloway, NJ. During his lifetime, he lived in New Jersey and Coffeen.

A custodian for the Hillsboro School District for 18 years, he worked at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro for 21 years. He was a baseball coach, a Coffeen fireman, a basketball coach and pastor, and helped run the Coffeen Food Pantry.

He loved hunting, fishing, his kids and grandkids, mushroom hunting, playing Santa's helper, woodworking, camping and preaching the Word of God. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Coffeen.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children, Jim (wife Jessica) Summers of Hillsboro, Joe (wife Lindy) Summers of Witt and Julie (husband Bill) Oller of Walshville; grandchildren, Wyatt Kershaw, Collin Castleman, Landon Summers, Devin Hansel, Zack Hansel, Ellie Mae Summers, Nash Summers and Easton Summers; siblings, Bill (wife Pam) Summers of Litchfield and Marie (husband Jim) Acosta of Hillsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Paden Debardeleben and a nephew, Edward Aber.
