James E. “Jim” Anderson, 75, of Litchfield, died at 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, Dec. 3, at Litchfield Family Funeral Service. Funeral services will begin at noon at the funeral home with Pastor Jon Magnuson, minster of Beacon Church in Litchfield, officiating. Cremation rites will follow. Per the family’s strong recommendations, CDC guidelines will be followed and face coverings will be required. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Anderson was born on May 30, 1946, in Springfield, a son of Samuel and Louise (Dorris) Anderson. He married the former Lou Ellen Werries on Nov. 22, 1997, in Las Vegas, NV. He attended Glenwood High School with the class of 1964. Mr. Anderson grew up in the Chatham area and moved to Litchfield in his early 20s.
With the help of his father, he purchased farm land in North Litchfield and he began his career as a lifelong farmer. Mr. Anderson farmed until 2019. He was also involved in machinery sales and consignment auctions. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and the Illinois Auctioneer Association.
His family will remember him as a man who never met a stranger and was always quick to strike up a conversation and make friends with everyone. Mr. Anderson loved life and enjoyed NASCAR and drag races on Sundays. He also liked to attend tractor pulls and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Fan. The Andersons also held season passes to attend musicals at the Fox Theatre.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife; step-daughter, Annette (James) Weindel of Arnold, MO; step-son, William (Erin) Werries III of Webster Groves, MO; step-grandchildren, Nick and Jack Weindel, and Liam and Lucas Werries; sister, Beverly Carder of Naples, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Gladys Hopping and Mildred Ellis.
