James Thomas Brown, Sr., 80, of Litchfield, died on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at 3:39 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Paul Jones officiating. Burial will be held in Elm Lawn Cemetery in Litchfield.

Mr. Brown was born Sept. 13, 1939, in East St. Louis, to Paul P. and Dolly Daphnie (Whittacker) Brown. He married Marion Jean Hampton on June 21, 1959, at Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2010. He later married Charlene June (Perrine) Fairless on Nov. 12, 2011, at Raymond Baptist Church, and she survives.

He was employed at CPC-Rexel (International Paper Co.) in Litchfield as a printing operator for several years. He had also worked for Wepco Manufacturing in Litchfield.

For over 40 years, Mr. Brown was a drummer for various local bands. He attended New Hope Baptist Church in Litchfield and was a long-time member and past officer of the Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634. He enjoyed camping, riding his motorcycle, fishing and was an avid Cardinals fan.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sherry (Larry) Boehme of New Bern, NC, Jim (Karen) Brown, Jr. of Cape Coral, FL, Patti (Vernon) Thrasher and Mike (Candice) Brown, both of Litchfield; stepdaughter, Terri (Chris) Costley of Litchfield; stepson, Austin (Shannon Soshe) Fairless; grandchildren, Erica and Abhishek Mishra, Elyse and Matt Hoffman, Emily Jackson, Ember (Matthew Corey) Boehme, Jennifer (Gary) Slater, Aleshia Brown, Christina Brown, Nathan Thrasher, Joshua Thrasher, Nicolle (Kyle Killam) Thrasher, Garrett (Megan Evans) Brown, Cailey Brown, Haydan Brown, Kim (Ed) Knecht, Melanie Smith and Andrea (Grant Plovich) Costley; and great-grandchildren, Ethan Mishra, Aiden Mishra, Luke Hoffman, Sonja Jackson, Layla Jackson, Nicholas Corey, Azra Corey, Alyssa Brown, Reilly Slater, Andrew Slater, Harrison Slater, Chevy Thrasher, Hayden Parker, Skylynn Thrasher, Leaham Thrasher, Lincoln Killam, Ethan Knecht, Levi Knecht, Kinley Knecht, Tiana Smith and Bror Smith.

In addition to his first wife, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Paul Brown, Jr., Terry Brown, Richard Brown and Donald Brown; sister, Billie Brown; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Brown and Thomas Brown.
