James W. Jankus of Manteno, 88, died on April 21, 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family services will be held.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Clancy Gernon Funeral Homes in Kankakee.

Mr. Jankus was born on Jan. 25, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Charles and Helen (Hultgen) Jankus. He married Priscilla Johanns on July 23, 1955, in Platteville, WI. Mr. Jankus was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War in the 101st Airborne Paratrooper Division.

Mr. Jankus retired from Bloom Trail High School, where he was the dean of students. He was a member of the Masonic Crete Lodge #763 and the Manteno United Methodist Church. Mr. Jankus was an avid traveler. In his free time, he loved going to estate sales with friends, fishing, boating and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jankus is survived by his wife, Priscilla Jankus of Manteno; daughters Juliet Jankus of Signal Hill, CA, Jean (David) Hobson of Hillsboro, Mary (Jim Jamicich) and Beth Jankus (Charles Vaden); seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ed Jankus.
