Janet Sue Gelsinger, 74, of Litchfield, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, at 7:34 p.m. at Carlinville Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Carlinville.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening, Feb. 1, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services for Mrs. Gelsinger will be held Friday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The Rev. Gary Schwab, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate and burial will be in Crabtree Cemetery.
Mrs. Gelsinger was born Aug. 17, 1949, in Litchfield, a daughter of August John and Velma Pearl (Guinn) Wendel, Sr. She attended Litchfield schools and received her GED. She married Ronald Lee Gelsinger on June 30, 1979, at the home of Brother Ed Diveley in Hillsboro. Mr. Gelsinger preceded her in death on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2009.
In her early working years, Mrs. Gelsinger was employed at the former A&W Root Beer stand, Burger Chef and for several years at Roller Derby Skate Corp., where she met her future husband, Ronnie. She then went to work at HSHS St. Francis Hospital and worked her way up to become supervisor of housekeeping. She worked at HSHS St. Francis for over 30 years until she retired.
Mrs. Gelsinger was a member of the Red Hat Society, Crabtree Cemetery Association Board, and was president of the resident’s council of Carlinville Rehab and Health Care. She enjoyed bowling and camping, crocheting and singing karaoke.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert (partner Angela) Settles of Missouri, John (Stanett) Settles of Litchfield and Ronnie (Sarah) Gelsinger of Litchfield; two daughters, Joann (Paul) Maberry of Litchfield and Sharon (Tom) Stoecker of Worden; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Wendel and sister, Sarah Kirby, both of Litchfield.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Gelsinger is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Donald J. Settles, Sr.; brother, John “Junior” Wendel and sister, Marjorie A. Ellinger; and two infant grandsons, Ronald and Ronnie Gelsinger, Jr.
