Jerry Edward Tidwell, 75, of Salisbury, died on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at his home, following a short battle with cancer.

Private family graveside services will be held with the Rev. Nathaniel Kern officiating. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is assisting the family.

Mr. Tidwell was born Dec. 29, 1944, in Hillsboro, to Carroll and Irene Hurley. He married Sharon Irene Jacoby on Jan. 2, 1966, and she survives.

He worked most of his life for Contech, formerly Armco Steele, before retiring after 44 years.

Mr. Tidwell was a very devoted, humble and giving husband, father and grandfather. Through the years, he loved camping and fishing with his best friend, Bob, and listening to music.

He enjoyed helping others with repairing small motors, drills, radios and other small tools. He also liked watching old westerns and Chuck Norris on TV with his two cats, Parker and Miss Gray, on his lap, while enjoying a hot cup of coffee and a sweet treat at his side.

Most recently, Mr. Tidwell joined his wife at the Give N’ Take in Petersburg, volunteering for five years where he loved to give back.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his two daughters, Melissa (William) Atteberry of Cantrall and Teresa (Jeffery) Brummet of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Brock Jared of Providence, RI, and Kellie Reece of Salisbury; and one brother, Carroll (Carol) Vernon of Cudjoe Gardens, FL.

Mr. Tidwell was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mary.

Memorials may be directed to the family for funeral expenses.
