Jerry Edward Tidwell, 75, of Salisbury, died after a short battle with cancer, on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at his home.

Private family services were held graveside with Rev. Nathaniel Kern officiating. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Tidwell was born on Dec. 29, 1944, in Hillsboro, to Carroll and Irene Tidwell. He married Sharon Irene Jacoby on Jan. 2, 1966 and they were married for 54 years.

He worked most of his life for Contech (formerly Armco Steele) before retiring after 44 years. Most recently, Mr. Tidwell joined his wife at the Give N’ Take in Petersburg, where he loved to give back and volunteered for five years. He attended Salisbury Christian Church.

Mr. Tidwell’s family knew him as a very devoted, humble and giving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved camping, listening to music and fishing with his best friend, Bob. Mr. Tidwell enjoyed helping others with repairing small motors, drills, radios and other small tools. He liked watching old westerns and Chuck Norris on television with his two cats, Parker and Miss Gray, on his lap while enjoying a hot cup of coffee and a sweet treat at his side.

Mr. Tidwell is survived by his wife; two daughters, Melissa (William) Atteberry of Cantrall and Teresa (Jeffery) Brummett of Salisbury; two grandchildren, Brock Jared currently residing in Providence, RI, and Kellie Reece of Salisbury; and one brother, Carroll Vernon (Carol) Tidwell of Cudjoe Gardens, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Mary.
