Jess R. Anglin Sr., 80, of Mt. Olive, died peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at 6:15 a.m. at the home of his daughter with his loving family by his side.

A visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at the home of his daughter in Mt. Olive. Becker and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Anglin was born in East St. Louis on Sept. 18, 1943 to  Jess and Millie (Ingram) Anglin. He attended school at Clark Elementary and Jr. High Schools in East St. Louis until 8th grade. He married Dorothy (Butler) Anglin on June 7, 1963, and they were married for 60 years.

For over 30 years,  Mr. Anglin was employed at St. Louis National Stockyards working in several positions. While there he worked as a police officer and for over twenty years a volunteer firefighter. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Mt. Olive Fire Department for many years.

Mr. Anglin loved fishing, camping, playing bingo and working on cars and slots. He was loved by many for his good humor, laughs, jokes and above all his kindness. He was always the life of the party. Mr. Anglin always had a contagious smile. He didn’t know a stranger. He really enjoyed helping others. He was everyone's dad or grandpa. Family was his life. He loved playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Anglin loved his three dogs: Jewels, Miley and Coco.

Mr. Anglin is survived by his wife, Dorothy; children, four sons, Jess R. (Patricia) Anglin of Litchfield, William Scott (companion Teresa) Anglin of Carlinville, Philip Anglin of Litchfield, and Donald Anglin of Galesburg and one daughter, Dawn (Scott) Martin of Mt. Olive; grandchildren Christina (Derek) Sellers of Collinsville, Michael (Corina) Lee of Hillsboro, Matthew Bone and Andrew Bone of Mt. Olive, Whitney (Logan) Miller of Litchfield, Cody (Tessa) Anglin of Litchfield, Aaron (Charity) Anglin of Carlinville, Kyleigh (Sam) Anglin of Litchfield, Regina Holmes of Springfield and Tiffany Anglin of Colorado; 20 great-grandbabies; a brother, Tommy (Wendy) Anglin of Buffalo, MO; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, three brothers,  Jess Anglin, Jr., Edmond Anglin and Terry Anglin; four sisters-in-law; one nephew and one daughter-in-law.
