Jim Lanter, 87, died peacefully surrounded by his kids on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
Mr. Lanter graduated from Raymond High School with the class of 1954. He married Sharon Routt and they later divorced. He later married Sandy Mutchler and she survives in Hillsboro.
As a teen, he was involved with the family business of raising and showing horses. Mr. Lanter and his father, Odell, were partners in a race horse named Senorita Bonita that Mr. Lanter was often the jockey for. He also held the track record for several years at Mead county fairgrounds in Mead, KS.
Mr. Lanter joined the army where he was a paratrooper with the 101st airborne Screaming Eagles.When he was 15, he hitchhiked to Colorado and worked for Sylvandale Ranch. He owned and operated Jim Lanter’s Carpet Sales for over 40 years. He was affectionately called the “King of Union Avenue” by another prominent business man.
He is survived by his wife; children, Gary Lanter of Springfield, Terri Olack of Pontoon Beach, Larry and Pam Lanter of Raymond, Sherri Cook of Farmersville and Jack and Dana Lanter of Pittsfield; grandchildren, Max, Sara, Kayla, Lacey, Tony, Lora, Hanna, Madilyn and Macie and great-grandchild, Baylor.
