Jimmy “Jim” L. Waterman, 76, of Springfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

The family is being served by Lincoln Land Cremation Society of Springfield.

Mr. Waterman was born March 22, 1944, in Taylorville, the son of Dan and Irene (Kurfiss) Waterman. He married Rita Millspaugh on Sept. 3, 1966, in Nashville, TN, and she survives.

He proudly served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Eureka College, and went on to work for the State of Illinois as a computer programmer. He later taught at the Department of Revenue.

A founding member of Parkway Christian Church Disciples of Christ, he was a 20-year lay pastor at Chandlerville Christian Church. He loved his grandchildren, blessing new babies at church, camping, enjoying time away, reading books and family time. He was known to always be there, as well as being a man of God.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Stephen (Tara) Waterman of Glenarm and Marc (Dawn) Waterman of Chatham; grandchildren, Stephenie, Taryn, Ethan and James Waterman; sister, Rita Durston of Springfield; and brother, Dean (Diane) Waterman of Raymond.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Evelyn Riemann; and brother, Dan Waterman, Jr.
