One female jogger was killed, another was injured, and the man who police say hit them with his vehicle at about 6:18 a.m. Sunday morning, Aug. 7, near the south end of Glenn Shoals Lake in Hillsboro is under arrest for driving under the influence.
Jenna Hamm, 31, of Hillsboro, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, and Heather Dalenberg-Reincke, 38, of Hillsboro, was transported to Hillsboro Area Hospital by Hillsboro Area Ambulance Service with what police called non-life threatening injuries.
According to Hillsboro Police Chief Gary Satterlee, a car driven by Alan Logsdon, 33, of Litchfield, was east bound on Glenn Shoals Drive and struck the two joggers, also east bound, at 6:18 a.m., about 15 minutes after sunrise, just west of Lakewood Drive.
The driver reported no injuries and was taken into custody for aggravated driving under the influence and taken to Montgomery County Jail.
The road was closed for about four hours while the scene was under investigation by the Illinois State Police accident reconstruction unit. The Hillsboro Auxiliary Police assisted with traffic control.
The accident remains under investigation by the Hillsboro Police Department, Illinois State Police and Montgomery County Coroner's Office. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene, and four members of the Hillsboro Fire Department responded.
