John D. Durbin, 72, of West Palm Beach, FL, formerly of Hillsboro, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at 7:30 a.m. at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL.
No services are planned. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.
Mr. Durbin was born Feb. 24, 1947, in Montgomery County, a son of the late Murel and Irene Durbin. He married Janet L. Durbin, and they were married 33 years, prior to their divorce in 2000.
He lived most of his life in Hillsboro and Witt before moving to West Palm Beach, FL, in 2019, to enjoy retirement. He retired from Graham Correctional Center in 2012, splitting his time in Illinois and Florida. His number one enjoyment after retiring was "watching the grass grow."
He is survived by Janet L. Durbin; two daughters, Carla Durbin of West Palm Beach, FL and Jady (husband Jourdan) Chappelear of Hillsboro; brothers, Gary (wife Sherry) Durbin of Burnsville, NC; and Kelly and Barkley Durbin, both of Springfield; two sisters, Brenda (husband Robb) Schwartz of Hillsboro, Cathy (husband Shawn) Cady of Witt; and two grandchildren, Alex McDowell and Mason Chappelear.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
