John E. Hegel, 65

John Edward Hegel, 65, of Mt. Olive, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020, at 8:43 a.m. at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 28, in Chapman Cemetery in Mt. Olive with the Rev. Nancy Hubert officiating. Becker and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hegel was born May 18, 1955, in Litchfield, to the late Roy Edward Hegel and Leona Mae (Jackson) Hegel Machuga.

He attended Mt. Olive public schools and Mt. Olive High School. He was a retired truck driver and former Mt. Olive township commissioner.  He enjoyed tinkering with cars and motors as a hobby, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Mr. Hegel is survived by three daughters, Christine (Ken) Wolf, Denise Hegel and Tonya Hegel, all of Mt. Olive; three brothers, Kenneth (Betty) Hegel of Bowling Green, KY, Harry (Dawn) Hegel of Litchfield and Dennis (Brenda) Hegel of Walshville; two sisters, Shirley “Frosti” Bradley of Litchfield and Mary Ann Lowe of Staunton; sister-in-law, Carol Hegel of Mt. Olive; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Hegel; one granddaughter, Ricki Lynn Jackson; and stepfather, Elmer Machuga.
