John Leroy Hasara, 79

John Leroy “Coke” Hasara, 79, of Virden, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at his home, with his faithful pups, Bandit and Tucker by his side.

Per his wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Airsman and Calvert Funeral Home in Virden is assisting the family.

Mr. Hasara was born Jan. 24, 1942, in Virden, the son of Joseph and Lillie (Hamlin) Hasara. He married the love of his life, Mary Ann Sturgeon, and she survives.

A member of the First Christian Church in Virden, he was  a coal miner for over 30 years,  working at both the Freeman Crown 1 in Farmersville and Monterey Crown 2 in Carlinville. Having been a stand-out athlete in earlier years, he took pride in teaching numerous kids how to play ball. He especially loved watching his kids and grandkids play in all sporting events. He had a soft spot for all animals, especially his dogs.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Tracey Moughan of Waverly, Tim (Monica) Hasara of Palmyra, Todd (Angie) Hasara of Virden and Tina Horn of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Tabitha (Anthony) Johnson, Ashley (Tyler) Mullen, Phylicia (fiance Anthony Martinez) Moughan, Breanna (Conner) Mitchell, Schuyler Moughan, Cassy (Phil) Savoy, Tanner (Brenley) Horn, Emily Hasara and Trevor Horn; eight great-grandchildren, with another one arriving soon; brother, Jim (Roseanne) Hasara of Virden; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
