John Matta, Jr., 48, of Mt. Olive, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at 1:40 p.m. at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Visitation and Celebration of Life were held Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive. 

Mr. Matta was born March 6, 1972, in Gardena, CA, the son of John Matta, Sr. and the late Mary Kathryn (Abdon) Matta. He married Aimee Melissa Robinson on Dec. 30, 1996, in Belleville, and she survives.

He attended Mt. Olive Public Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive High School with the class of 1990. He also attended Rend Lake College, graduating in 1992 with an associate’s degree. He was a fabricator for Hoosier Tire Midwest of Springfield. He loved racing, building race cars, coaching his daughter’s track team and enjoyed baseball.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, John Matta, Sr. of Mt. Olive; one son, Jeffrey Matta of Litchfield; one daughter, Miranda Matta; two sisters, Kathy (Greg) Mayer of Mt. Olive and Heidi (Jeff) Heyen of Litchfield; and nieces and  nephews, Andy, Shelbie, Bryce, Riley, Caleb and Parker.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a sister, Teresa Matta.

Memorials may be made to Paws Care, Inc in Hillsboro or Christian County Quarter Midget Association in Taylorville.
