John Theodore Boerckel III, of Litchfield, IL, died on Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at his residence in Litchfield.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Litchfield Family Funeral Service, located at 700 S. State St. in Litchfield. Funeral services will also be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, following the visitation with Mike Rogers officiating. Burial will take place in Elm Wood Cemetery.
Mr. Boerckel was born on March 9, 1951 to John T. and Caroline Buzick Boerckel. He worked as a laborer building grain dryers for Zimmermann in Litchfield, and later for GSI. He retired in 2012 after 42 years. Mr. Boerckel loved to fish, hunt, and tend to his garden.
Mr. Boerckel is survived by companion Karen Hockett; his children, Joni (Lonnie) Mayfield of Norwood, MO and John (Shannon) Boerckel IV of Hillsboro; grandchildren, John T. Boerckel V, Cody Allen Boerckel, Leslie (Chris) Tinsley, Tyler (Stephany) Harris and step granddaughter Taylor Mayfield; siblings, Terry (Joann) Boerckel of New Douglas, Nancy Brewer of Litchfield and Carol (Kenny) Ondrey of Livingston; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Boerckel was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Amy Boerckel; brothers, Jimmy Boerckel, Gene Boerckel and Darren Boerckel; sister in law, Linda Boerckel; and grandparents John and Edith Boerckel, Sr. and Toney and Cora Buzick.
