John W. Skinner, 81

John W. Skinner, 81, of Nokomis, died on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020, at 1:53 a.m.  Memorial Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Stiehl-Dawson Funeral Home in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Skinner was born June 6, 1939, in rural Nokomis, to Chester H. and Mary (Morrison) Skinner. He married Cheryl Sanders on June 6, 1962, and she survives.

He graduated high school. During his career, he worked for Chicago Bridge and Iron as a welder and boilermaker for many years, then retired as a supervisor from CIPS Power Plant in Coffeen.

Mr. Skinner was a member of Nokomis AF & AM Masonic Lodge #456. He loved the outdoors, bass fishing in his boat, camping with friends and family, and riding his motorcycles. He enjoyed trapshooting with his buddies, as well as wood working, which he loved to make for his family.

Whatever he tried to do, he succeeded at it. He lived a happy life surrounded by his favorite people and is now watching over them, careless and pain free.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Skinner is survived by his two daughters, Kimberlee (Jim) Wilson and Julee (Kelly) Johnson, both of Nokomis; granddaughters, Shaylee (Aron Watkins) Wilson, Kacey Johnson and Jayme Johnson, all of Nokomis; great-granddaughter, Lilah Watkins of Nokomis; and sisters, Edna Brown of Virginia and Patsy Campbell of Taylorville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Harriett Alvey and Pamela Clay.
