Joseph C. Large, II, 89, of rural Owaneco, died on Friday, July 27, 2018, at 4:30 a.m. at his home.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 31, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville with Masonic services beginning at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1, beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Becky Lembke and Pastor Bob Cook co-officiating. Burial will follow at Buckeye Cemetery in rural Owaneco.

Mr. Large was born April 28, 1929, in Pana, to Clarence and Harriet (Wilcox) Large. He married Nita Joyce Ryan on Oct. 3, 1948, in Morrisonville, and she survives.

He worked as a farmer and lived his entire life on the home place. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals, fishing, water skiing, eating at Chick-Fil-A, his John Deere farm toys and being with family and friends.

Mr. Large was a member of Masonic Locust Lodge #623 in Owaneco since 1953, where he served as Past Master. He was also a member of the Ansar Shrine, Christian County Zoning Board, Christian County Farm Bureau Board and Taylorville United Methodist Church Board.

He served as a Christian County Republican Committeeman, a chairman for the Land of Lincoln Farm Toy Show and served on the Buckeye Cemetery Board.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Large is survived by his sons, J.C. (Connie) Large and Douglas Large, both of Owaneco and Tim (Cheryl Bursa) Large of Springfield; daughters, Rebecca (Ron) Boddie of Katy, TX, and Deborah (David) Keith of Fisher; grandchildren, Kellie (Mike Austin) Large-Cass of Springfield, Brandon (Lori) Large of Taylorville, Brian (Mary) Keith of Bloomington, Robert (Nicole) Keith of Carol Stream, Lindsay Boddie of San Marcos, TX, and Bryce Boddie of Katy, TX; great-grandchildren, Paige and Brody Large, both of Taylorville, and baby boy Keith due in November; a sister, Ruth (Large) Allen of Galesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
