Joseph Frederick Boucher, 70, of Hillsboro, formerly of Litchfield, died on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020, at Hillsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hough and Sons Funeral Home in Hillsboro. A memorial service will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Rudy Elam officiating. Burial will be held in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield.

He was born March 21, 1950, in Hillsboro, to Joseph H. and Reta (Brown) Boucher. He married Paula Walker on Jan. 20, 1970, and they later divorced.

He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1968, then served in the Illinois National Guard.

During his lifetime, he worked at Illinois Consolidated, Prairieland Construction, Dravo and Tru-Weld. He was a member of Luck and Buck Saddle Club in Hillsboro, the Raymond Saddle Club, Moose Lodge and Amvets in Litchfield.

He enjoyed going to the Fox Theatre for plays, Chaifetz Arena for concerts and the St. Louis Muny in the summer for musicals. He was an avid reader, who enjoyed reading about the history of our nation. 

He loved to watch old westerns and collect elephant figurines from all over the country of which he took great pride in. Additionally, he loved his two cats and never hesitated to pick up stray animals and care for them until he could find them a new home. He never met a stranger and had a very witty sense of humor.

He is survived by his companion, Christine Harms; three sons, Paul Boucher of Hillsboro, Brian Boucher of Arizona and Sherman (friend Emily) Boucher of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Gretchen Boucher, Sharon (husband Chris) Michaels, Sarah Boucher, Wyatt Boucher and Ashley Boucher; two great-grandchildren, Elliot and Olivia Michaels; three sisters, Frances Currie, Jo Ann (husband Tom) Currie and Rebecca (husband Glen) Cherry; three nieces, Amy Mullins, Julie Bronson and Sharla Yurkovich; nephew, Tom  Cherry; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, John Currie.
