Joseph “Joe” B. Childers, 84, of Coffeen, died on Monday, June 1, 2020, at 10:24 p.m. at his residence.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 11, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Toberman-Dean Funeral Home in Coffeen. Funeral services will follow, beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Ted McAleer officiating. Cremation rites were accorded.
Mr. Childers was born Jan. 22, 1936, in Amy, NC, to Reeves and Edna (Jones) Childers. He married Janet McKinney on Nov. 3, 1956, in Harrisburg, VA, and she survives.
During his career, he served as a candy maker for Brachs Candy in Chicago.
Mr. Childers loved the outdoors, to hunt and fish, participating in turkey shoots and spending time with his children, grandchildren and family. He resided in Arizona, Chicago for 40 years and Coffeen throughout his life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Joyce (husband John) Bieda of Roselle and Jennifer (husband Ted) McAleer of Oswego; eight grandchildren, Miranda Mock, Matthew Lupton, Kyle Underwood, Blaine Underwood, Olivia McAleer, Ethan McAleer, Jennifer Bieda and John Bieda; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Reed of Chicago.
Mr. Childers was preceded in death by his daughter, Pam Underwood; one sister; and one brother.
