Joseph (Joe) Lawrence Brockamp, 73, of Springfield, died at 2:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, July 13, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Springfield, with the Rev. Daniel J. Bergbower as celebrant. Burial followed at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Cremation rites were accorded. Butler Funeral Home in Springfield assisted the family with arrangements.

Mr. Brockamp was born on Sept. 16, 1949, in Taylorville, the son of Leo and Marjorie (Langen) Brockamp of Morrisonville. He married Bonnie Lynn Wade on Oct. 1, 1976, and together their raised their children in Springfield.

Mr. Brockamp attended Catholic and public schools in Morrisonville and graduated from Morrisonville High School in 1967. In 1969, Mr. Brockamp earned an associate’s degree from Springfield College and in 1971, he graduated with a degree in agriculture business from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.

Mr. Brockamp was an active member of the community and served as treasurer for 25-plus years for the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind, Noon Lions Club, and the Firefighters-Postal Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council post #4175 and St. Agnes Parish.

Mr. Brockamp began his professional business career as an accountant with Complex Business Services in Springfield. He eventually purchased the business from his mentor and business partner Cornelia Hodges in the early 1980s. In the late 1980s, Complete Business Services were acquired by Sikich Gardner and Company, which is now Sikich, LLP. Mr. Brockamp worked many years at Sikich and earned the respect and a reputation of excellence from both his associates and clients.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Brockamp is survived by his daughter, Beth (Kirk) Petrowski of Springfield; granddaughter, Aunna Beranek of Springfield; brothers, John (Marla) Brockamp and Dale (Kendra) Brockamp, both Morrisonville; brother-in-law, Brad (Marcia) Wade of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by his son, Rob Brockamp; parents; in-laws, Bob and Grace Wade; and brother, Phil Brockamp.
