Joseph L. Petty, 78, of Hillsboro, died on Thursday, Sept. 22, at Carle Hospital in Champaign.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis. A funeral service at the funeral home will follow at 12 p.m. with Terry Walters officiating. Burial will follow at Nokomis Cemetery.
Mr. Petty was born on Jan. 22, 1944, in Pana, the son of Donald and Helen (Bolte) Petty. He was a self-employed contractor, focusing on home renovation and construction, for many years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed racing motorcycles, golfing, and he loved his dogs.
He is survived by his children, Brandon Petty of Nokomis and Shelly Petty of Springfield; grandchildren, Maddyson Petty, Samantha Koonce and Dayton Koonce; siblings, Jerry (Sue) Petty, Rod (Sue) Petty, Dennis Petty (companion Jan Richardson), Randy (Penny) Petty, J.P. (Mary) Petty and Chris Petty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Diane Petty and Reg Petty; and a nephew, Nick Petty.
