Joseph Paul Spencer, 80, of Litchfield, died at 3:48 a.m., on Friday, Aug. 28, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Bill Baughman, of First Baptist Church of Winchester officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury Cemetery in Raymond. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Mr. Spencer was born in Hillsboro, on December 11, 1945, a son of Raymond W. and Delberta D. (Smith) Spencer. He graduated from Raymond High School with the class of 1963. He married the former Donna Louise Reynolds in Springfield, on Nov. 15, 1969, and they enjoyed nearly 56 years of marriage until her passing on Aug. 22, 2025.

He was employed with the City of Litchfield for 24 and a half years as a well-respected firefighter and EMT, retiring in 2001. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed scouting, hunting, fishing and traveling. He was certified as an Illinois Hunting Safety Instructor and a member of the Bass Club. He held memberships in the Plainview Baptist Church and the Litchfield Moose Lodge #1634. He treasured spending time with his family.

Mr. Spencer is survived by his sons, Brian (Katrina) Spencer of Virden and Shane (fiancée Jennifer Lynn Tregunna) Spencer of Lusby, MD; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Delberta Spencer; his wife, Donna Spencer; and two brothers, A. Wayne Spencer and Howard “Tiny” Spencer.
