Julia Edwards Sanks, 77, of Athens, GA, died on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 14, beginning at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Athens, GA, with Dr. Ryan Baer and Dr. Carol Strickland co-officiating. Bernstein Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Athens, GA, is assisting the family.

Mrs. Sanks was born June 22, 1942, in Hillsboro, to Kenneth and Mary Edith Edwards. She married Robert “Bob” Sanks on Sept. 24, 1966, and he survives.

She graduated from Milliken University in Decatur with a degree in high school home economics. Following  college graduation, she worked as a middle school teacher in North Carolina, and also as a department store buyer.

Mrs. Sanks served as a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center, which she and her husband owned for ten years.

She volunteered her time as a docent at the Georgia Museum of Art. She was a member of Phi Beta Phi Sorority and current member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization of women. As a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed the women’s Bible study class, coordinated the Flower Ministry and was apart of Circle 3-4.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sanks is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Steve Brown of Houston, TX; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Jane Sanks of Sarasota, FL; niece, Beth Edwards; and nephew, Matt Edwards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Robert “Bob” and Barb Edwards, who recently preceded her in death.
