Karl Franz "Hans" Gerecke, 67, of Mt. Olive, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at 8:23 a.m. at his residence.
Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 17, in Chapman Cemetery in Mt. Olive with the Rev. James Ritter officiating. Becker and Son Funeral Home in Mt. Olive was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gerecke was born July 6, 1952, in Madison, WI, the son of the late Carleton Milser and Patricia Joan Gerecke.
He attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Mt. Olive with the class of 1970. He attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for one year, where he majored in music.
A member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, he was a truck driver for Hartwig Trucking, where he delivered bulk mail for the U.S. Post Office. He played the trombone, and loved classical music, especially Pavarotti. He was part of the family at 138 Cafe in Mt. Olive.
Mr. Gerecke is survived by his sister, Karmen Gerecke of Litchfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
