Katherine “Marie” Sasser, 88, of Bethalto, died on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 12:10 p.m. at her home surrounded by her family.
A carcade visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. A private family service will follow, as well as a private burial that will be held in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Sasser was born Jan. 13, 1932, to Willie Earl and Bessie Lee (Ray) Wiseman. She married Jesse “David” Sasser on Feb. 14, 1951, in Hernado, MS, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 2015.
She was a member of Meadowbrook First Southern Baptist Church, where she served as church clerk, sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years.
Mrs. Sasser was always concerned and caring for her children, and loved spending time with them and her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and for having a story for everything. She was also an avid Cardinal’s baseball fan and was influenced by the sermons of Billy Graham.
She is survived by her children, Tim (Teri) Sasser of Williston, ND, Patty (Jeff) Hemken of Hillsboro, Janie (Jim) Denton of Palmer, AK, Marty (Renee) Sasser of Cottage Hills, Starla (Mark) Cain of Bethalto, Shelly (Donnie) Hopson of Mills River, NC, and Terry (Elizabeth) Sasser of Belvidere; her four-legged child, Pete; half-brother, Ray (Janet) Garrett of Litchfield; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sasser was preceded in death by her parents; son, Barry Lynn Sasser; grandson, Aaron Sasser; great-grandson, Nehimiah Sasser; and all of her brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be directed to Benevolent Fund at Meadowbrook First Southern Baptist Church or the First Baptist Church in Bethalto.
