They moved to New Orleans in 1972, when her husband was offered a great job opportunity. There, she studied and became an EMT and then a paramedic in training with the New Orleans Police Department. Her husband was promoted to a position in Houston, where they lived before returning to New Orleans to finish out his career.
Mrs. Pope enjoyed traveling abroad and would accompany her husband on overseas business trips. She loved her travels to Egypt, seeing the camel races, seeing the Taj Mahal in India, celebrating carnival in Brazil, but her love for English and Scottish history and the people of Great Britain drew her back many times to London and Edinburgh.
