Keith E. Myers, 52, of Springfield, died at 1:49 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at his place of residence.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 16, at Butler Funeral Home in Springfield. Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center. Butler Funeral Home in Springfield assisted the family.
Mr. Myers was born in Springfield on March 31, 1971, the son of Robert L. and Sandy K. Gilbert Myers. He was an extremely hard-working, dedicated, loyal man with a heart of gold, always a smile to give, and had an amazing sense of humor. He attended Riverton High School, graduating with the class of 1990.
He began his culinary career at Mavericks Family Steakhouse, where he worked for over 25 years. The Myers family had legendary back room parties with loud laughter and spot on, in-tune singing heard on many occasions.
Mr. Myers went further to expand his career, serving as Food and Beverage Director at Brenden Gardens for the past 12 years. In those 12 years, he devoted himself to caring for his residents. He gave 110 percent of himself, unselfishly to care for a community in which he truly loved putting in countless hours of volunteer time in addition to his long hour work days.
He had a strong passion for all sports, including football, baseball, and golf. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs, Chicago White Sox and Fighting Illini fan. His passion for his KC Chiefs team was quite infectious. His enthusiasm and love for the game inspired those around him to share in his excitement. His greatest treasure in life by far, however, was his son, Wesley. He made sure to attend as many of Wesley’s football games as he could despite his health and travel distance.
His son is his legacy, his greatest joy and his greatest accomplishment. Nothing in this world could compare to the happiness and love he felt when he was with his son. His dedication and passion for life are inspiring. He is loved but never ever forgotten.
Mr. Myers is survived by his mom; son, Wesley Myers of Hillsboro; stepson, Christopher Pettit of Springfield; brothers, Robert (Mary Beth) Myers of Chatham and Mark (Jackie) Myers of Springfield; sister, Dr. Kris Myers of Dawson; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; several cousins; paternal grandparents, James and Ethel Myers; and maternal grandparents, Henry and Margaret Gilbert.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hillsboro Athletic Department.
