The last time the Hillsboro girls basketball team was altogether on the same playing field, they were celebrating a fourth place finish at the IHSA Class 2A Girls Basketball State Finals.
On Tuesday, June 4, the Lady Hiltoppers were together again, once again celebrating their accomplishments from the 2018-19 season, but this time, at Robin Roberts Stadium in Springfield, the home of the Springfield Sliders of the collegiate Prospect League.
The team and Coach Bret Tuetken were invited to be on the field before the game and were introduced to the crowd by Sliders’ intern, and Hillsboro High School grad, Daniel Britton, who organized the event.
As an added bonus, before the start of the home team’s game against the Normal CornBelters, Aubry Rupert, Kylie Meier, Jade Scroggins, Claire Tester and Sheridan Lyerla threw out a ceremonial first pitch. Catching the first pitches were Colten Schild (#4), Nate DeYoung (#31), Jack Rigoni (#8), Alex Ludwick (#7) and Brendan Ryan (#12). Normal would go on to pick up a 5-2 win over the Sliders.
