Lady Lancers Cruise Past Calvary Saints

On Monday, April 29, Lincolnwood put up 15 runs against Ramsey in their highest offensive output of the season. Three days later, the Lady Lancers not only eclipsed that mark, they did it twice.

The Lincolnwood High School softball team traveled to Lenz Field in Jacksonville on Thursday, May 2, and came away with two wins over Calvary by the lopsided scores of 25-7 and 25-4.

The Lancers had 14 hits in each game and were walked 31 times in the two four-inning shortened games. They were also hit by a pitch in two at-bats, meaning that in their 83 trips to the plate, they were given 33 free passes.

In game one, Lincolnwood scored six runs in the first on four hits, three walks and a hit batter, with Cassie Krager dealing the big blow with a two-run triple. In the second, they would add four more runs on three hits, with Sadie Slightom driving in two and Katelyn Payne and Shelby Hattenbach adding one RBI each.

The Saints would rally to cut the lead to 10-7 with seven unearned runs on three hits and three errors, but Lincolnwood answered with a 12 run inning as they sent 17 batters to the plate, with three scoring twice in the inning.

Sadie Slightom would drive in two more runs in the third with her third double of the game, while Payne added two more RBIs as well. Maggie McClelland, Sydney Herman and Sidney Glick also drove in runs in the big inning.

After a scoreless bottom half of the third, Lincolnwood put up three more runs on two hits, two errors and four walks. Slightom would add her sixth RBI of the contest, while Savannah Bowman also drove in a run.

Nine different Lancers would score in the game, including Cassie Krager and Brittney Slightom, who had five runs scored apiece while going 2-for-3 and 1-for-2 respectively.

Sadie Slightom would go 4-for-5 with four runs scored and six RBIs, while Maggie McClelland was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Katelyn Payne would go 2-for-3 with a run scored and four driven in, while Sidney Glick had one hit, two runs scored and two more driven in.

Marisa Webb would reach base three times on two walks and a hit-by-pitch, and scored all three times, while Sydney Herman and  Shelby Hattenbach also scored a run each. Savannah Bowman and Kyra Shull also had at-bats in the game, with Bowman picking up a fourth inning single.

Game two was even more one-sided as the Lady Lancers put up 11 runs in the first and seven runs in each of the next two innings to end the game early. The Saints would get a solo run in the opening frame and two more in the third as they fell to 1-15 on the year.

Lincolnwood's opening salvo came off of six hits, four errors and five walks as they sent 16 batters to the plate. Cassie Krager, Maggie McClelland, Marisa Webb, Sydney Herman and Katelyn Payne would all have RBIs in the first inning.

The Lancers would send ten batters to the plate in the second inning, scoring seven runs on four hits and four walks. Sidney Glick would have a pair of RBIs with a double, while Sadie Slightom, McClelland, Webb and Kyra Shull also drove in runs.

In the third inning, 12 more batters would come to the plate, with seven scoring on four hits and six walks. McClelland and Hull both picked up their third RBI of the game, while Shull and Krager picked up their second. Savannah Bowman also drove in a run in the Lady Lancers' final trip to the plate.

Six different players would pick up two hits apiece, while 12 would score in the win.

Sidney Glick was 2-for-3 with four runs scored, while Cassie Krager and Desi Pitchford were both 2-for-3 with three trips across home plate. Sadie Slightom and Maggie McClelland were 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Marisa Webb was 2-for-2 with one trip home.

Katelyn Payne added a hit and two runs scored, while Sydney Herman, Kyra Shull, Sophie Rainwater and Shelby Hattenbach all scored as well.

Brittney Slightom would also contribute an odd stat line in a game full of oddities, as she scored four times without an official at-bat, walking in all four of her plate appearances.

Lincolnwood will celebrate their senior night on Monday, May 6, against Central A&M after their game with the Raiders was washed out on May 3. That's the start of a busy week for the Lancers, who will be at Pawnee on Tuesday, at Auburn on Thursday, at Greenfield-Northwestern on Friday (in Palmyra) and back at home on Saturday, against Pawnee.
