The Lincolnwood girls golf team teed off at Shoal Creek for the second time this season on Monday, Aug. 24, as they hosted Williamsville, Carlinville and North Mac.
While the Lancers would finish behind the Lady Bullets and Cavaliers, they would improve on their team score from their opening meet, with five of their seven players also lowering their stroke totals.
Lincolnwood shot a 208 on the day, three strokes better than their season opener on Aug. 17. Williamsville would take first with a 192, boosted by medalist Faith Davis’ 38, while Carlinville was second with a 200, led by Elsa Mefford with a 40. North Mac, who shot a 248 at Shoal Creek on Aug. 17, finished fourth with a 239.
Dorie Krager, the medalist in the Lancers’ opener, was once again the top player for Lincolnwood. Krager shot a 47, one stroke better than the week before, with three pars and no score worse than a triple bogey on any hole.
Micah Gehlbach would shave five strokes off her score, shooting a 48, while Jordyn Gerlach added a 52. Shelby Hattenbach added the final scoring round with a 61.
Jhia Walker, Marisa Webb and Kaylee Gerlach all improved in their second matches of the season as well. Walker shot a 61, six strokes better than the first time out, while Webb shot a 63, two better than her debut. Gerlach would improve three strokes over her first varsity match, shooting a 66.
At Terry Park
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Lady Lancers lost a close match to the Lady Vipers of South County, the Waverly-Franklin co-op. Playing on their home course at Terry Park Golf Course in Palmyra, the Vipers took the match by four strokes 203 to 207.
Dorie Krager would lead Lincolnwood at the snug par-36 course, shooting a 48 to finish fourth overall. Palmyra Northwestern’s Grace LeMarr earned medalist honors with a 41. Micah Gehlbach would be just behind Krager with a 49, while Shelby Hattenbach and Jordyn Gerlach finished out the scoring with a 53 and a 57. Also playing for Lincolnwood were Marisa Webb (58), Jhia Walker (59) and Kaylee Gerlach (71).
The Lincolnwood girls will be back at home on Thursday, Aug. 27, for a match with Auburn, North Mac and Taylorville at 4 p.m.
