Lady Lancers Serve Up Loss To Greenfield-Northwestern

Posted

If the Lincolnwood volleyball team plays the way they did on Sept. 3 the rest of the season, it'll be a good year for the Lady Lancers.

Playing on their home court in Raymond, the Lancers' service receive was on point as they allowed just three service points in a two set win over Greenfield-Northwestern on Tuesday night.

Two of the three points came in the opening set, but did little to slow the Lancers' momentum. Time after time, Lincolnwood was able to snuff out a Greenfield rally, with the Lancers leading by double digits for most of the second half of the game before taking a 25-10 win.

In game two, Sidney Glick got the Lancers out to a quick 5-0 start from the service line, with Maggie McClelland knocking down a kill on a free ball in the run.

The streak set the tone for Lincolnwood, who never led by fewer than four points before taking a 25-11 win to improve their record to 3-0.

Glick, McClelland and Avery Pope led Lincolnwood's serving game with eight points apiece, while Lexie Millburg was close behind with six points. McClelland led the team with four aces, while Millburg had two and Glick and Kyra Shull, who had two points, added one ace each.

Defensively, four players had a half dozen digs or more, with Glick leading the way with eight. Cassie Krager would chip in seven, with Madison Krager and Millburg contributing six apiece. Pope would have four digs and one of two Lincolnwood blocks, with Katelyn Payne providing the other.

On the attack, Cassie Krager had six kills, followed by Maggie McClelland with six, Madison Krager with four, Katelyn Payne with three and Avery Pope with one. Pope would lead the team in assists with 14, but four others also dished out helpers to the hitters: Cassie Krager (four), Glick (two), Millburg (one) and McClelland (one).

The Lady Lancers would also pick up a win in the junior varsity contest, beating the Tigers 25-22, 25-15.

Lincolnwood will have a break until their next game, on Sept. 12, at Morrisonville, but the contest with the Mohawks will begin a busy stretch for the Lady Lancers as they play in the Montgomery County Invitational on Sept. 13-14 and the New Berlin Tournament on Sept. 20-21.
