In their final match of the regular season, the Litchfield girls golf team turned in a solid performance on their home course, but went up against two of the toughest teams they would see all year.
For the first time in the 2020 season, someone would get the better of the Lady Panthers as Rochester shot a 168 at the Litchfield Country Club, followed by Auburn carding a 185, which relegated Litchfield and their 188 to third place.
“It is always difficult to get beat at home, but Rochester and Auburn are two programs we have watched from afar for years and we respect them greatly,” said Litchfield Head Coach Dan Newkirk.
Laura Boston would lead Litchfield with a 40, taking third overall individually behind medalist Isabel Tom of Rochester (38) and Auburn’s Ellie Knight (39).
Carly Guinn would follow up Boston’s round with a 44, while Lauren Monke and Hailey Rentz rounded out the scoring with a 51 and a 53. Olivia Fleming would be close behind in the fifth spot with a 54, while Charlotte Gardner also played, shooting a 59.
While the season came to a close for much of the Litchfield team at the Taylorville Regional on Wednesday, Boston remains alive to represent the Panthers in the sectional round, which takes place on Thursday, Oct. 15, at The Rail in Sherman.
