After spending all of last year in the 200s, the Litchfield girls golf team has lived in the 180s as a team so far this year. That streak came to an end in a good way on Tuesday, Sept. 15, as the Lady Panthers shot a season-best 178 in a triangular victory at the Litchfield Country Club.
Litchfield broke their season-best by four strokes, which they had shot twice before on their home course. Four different players would have season-best scores on Tuesday as well, three on the varsity squad and one in a JV round.
Laura Boston would just miss her season-best of 37, but still earned medalist honors for the sixth time in as many matches with a 39.
Carly Guinn would add in a 44, while Hailey Rentz tied her season-best with a 46, her best round at her home course this season. Another season-best came from Lauren Monke, who contributed to Litchfield’s four scoring round, a 49 that beat her previous best by two strokes.
Olivia Fleming would better her previous 2020 mark by five strokes, shooting a 51, while Charlotte Gardner tied her season-best with a 61 in a JV round.
Junior Alyssa Loyd (52) and senior Izzy Ray (65) would also play for Litchfield, who improved to 15-0 on the season.
Hillsboro would take second in the match, beating Pana by 14 strokes and setting a season-best score despite a layoff of more than two weeks.
Alex Frailey bettered her season-best by seven strokes to lead Hillsboro with a 13-over-par 50, while her sister, Sam Frailey, also set a new high mark with a 57, shaving seven strokes off her previous best.
Meagan Jorn would add in a 53, one off her season-best, while Gracie Brink took four strokes off her personal record to shoot a 55.
Anna Colwell and Aurelie Granito would add in a 62 and a 73 from the fifth and sixth spots, while Peyton Colwell and Kennedy Dyer added scores of 70 and 73 in JV rounds.
The two rivals will see each other again on Sept. 23, as they travel to Oak Terrace Resort in Pana for this year’s third meeting.
