The Nokomis Lady Redskins had a long bus ride to Metro-East Lutheran on Monday, Dec. 9. They were battling the Lady Knights for a conference game victory.
To start off the game, the Lady Redskins took an early 9-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to steals, turnovers on the Lady Knights' end and offensive intensity.
The Lady Knights decided to pick up the intensity as well as they took the ball hard to the basket and drew fouls, resulting in made free throws for the Knights.
Despite the hustle from Metro-East, the Knights still trailed the Skins 13-8 at the end of the first quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, the Skins let the Lady Knights back into the game with unforced turnovers and lack of offensive execution. Going in at half, the Skins were ahead 21-18.
Coming out at half, the Lady Redskins knew that they were going to step up their play all the way around if they were going to pull off a win against the Knights. Feeling that they were the better team, the Lady Redskins finally decided to flip a switch and turn up the intensity and hustle to every loose ball and get a majority of the rebounds on both ends.
At the end of the third quarter, the Skins were barely holding onto a lead (30-28). In the fourth and final quarter, despite the Lady Knights' attempts, the Skins held onto the two point lead to capture their second conference game victory.
Mia Fesser added 13 points for the Skins, while Macee Eisenbarth added 13 points herself with nine rebounds. Audrey Sabol dominated on the boards with 15 rebounds.
The Lady Redskins will have a game on Thursday, Dec. 12, at home against Father McGivney starting at 6 p.m.
