Nokomis may have only had one senior on this year's girls basketball roster, but Macee Eisenbarth made the most of her night in the Lady Redskins' final home game against Lincolnwood on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Eisenbarth scored a team-best 16 points and added in five rebounds and three steals as Nokomis knocked off the first-year Lancers 50-14.
The Nokomis forward had eight of her 16 points in the final four minutes of the first quarter as the Redskins put together two significant scoring runs on either side of Lincolnwood's lone basket, made by Sophie Rainwater at the 4:06 mark. Addison Dangbar hit a three and a two and Audrey Sabol added four quick points to give Nokomis a 10-0 lead when coupled with a free throw by Eisenbarth, before Lincolnwood got on the board.
Eisenbarth would then score four more times on three field goals and a pair of free throws as Nokomis led 18-2 after eight minutes.
The Skins continued to build on their lead in the second quarter, going on a 12-0 run with Dangbar's second three and baskets by Sabol, Emily Cress and Mia Fesser.
Maggie McClelland would finally stop the bleeding at the 2:04 mark for the Lancers, making it 30-4, but Nokomis got a pair of free throws from Emma Sneddon and a basket from Sabol, which gave her 11 points for the game and gave her team a 36-4 halftime lead.
The Lancers would be more active on offense in the second half, taking more chances, with better results as Haelee Damm hit a three, coupled with a basket by Katelyn Payne and a free throw by Cassie Krager. The six point quarter was a step in the right direction, but Nokomis still outscored the Lancers by four, getting three points from Eisenbarth, two-pointers from Natalie Engelman and Sabol and a three from Jayme Johnson to take a 46-10 lead.
As the clock sped up with the mercy rule in the third quarter, the scoring would slow down. Eisenbarth added two more baskets to give her 16 for the game.
Avery Pope and Katelyn Payne matched her with two points apiece, resulting in the 50-14 final score and Nokomis' tenth win of the season.
Eight different players scored for the Lady Redskins, with Sabol joining Eisenbarth in double figures with 13 points and a team-best seven rebounds and two blocks. Addison Dangbar would add in eight points, followed by Natalie Engelman with four, Jayme Johnson with three and Emma Sneddon, Mia Fesser and Emily Cress all with two. Sneddon and Fesser joined Eisenbarth with three steals each as the Redskins picked the Lancers' pocket 16 times in the game.
Katelyn Payne would lead Lincolnwood with four points, followed by Haelee Damm with three, Avery Pope, Sophie Rainwater and Maggie McClelland with two each and Cassie Krager with one.
Lincolnwood will take on Bunker Hill on Thursday, Jan. 30, in a rare 4:30 p.m. contest in Raymond due to a tight gym schedule and a snowy original date with the Minutemaids.
Nokomis played Brussels on Wednesday in their consolation bracket quarterfinal at the Carrollton Lady Hawk Invitational. A win would put them in the semifinal against either Granite City or Beardstown on Friday, Jan. 31, at 6:30 p.m. The consolation championship is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, if the Lady Redskins can make it that far.
