The Hillsboro girls cross country team took second to Staunton on Wednesday, Sept. 9, in a five team meet at Schneider Park in Brighton.
The Lady Hiltoppers would have three of the top five finishers as they finished with 45 points. Staunton, who had the top two finishers with Lydia Roller (20:18) and Dana Jarden (22:40), took first with 31 points, while Roxana beat Southwestern for fourth after a fifth runner tie-breaker. Greenville would not qualify for a team score, but also sent runners to the meet.
The trio of Sierra Compton, Kelsey Holtgrave and Vanessa Compton finished third through fifth, with Sierra beating out the two seniors with a time of 23:32. Holtgrave and Vanessa Compton would finish two seconds apart, posting times of 24:20 and 24:22 respectively.
The next four Hillsboro runners would also finish in groups. Meagan White and Avery Smith finished 18th and 19th with times of 28:49 and 28:50, while Alecia Miller and Jade Christian were 28th and 29th with times of 35:04 and 35:06.
Hillsboro’s next scheduled meet is Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Lake Lou Yaeger for Litchfield’s home cross country match.
