The mid-season rejuvenation of the Hillsboro girls golf program continued at Indian Springs Golf Course near Coffeen on Monday, Sept. 30, as the Lady Hiltoppers finished third out of nine teams in the South Central Conference Tournament.
Just weeks after shooting a 240 in a nine-hole tilt, the Toppers shot a 439 for the 18-hole tournament, a six stroke per player difference.
Erin Kistner would lead the pack with a 102 as the senior shot her career-best round at the conference tournament and earned all-conference honors with a sixth place finish. Kistner, who shot a 162 as a freshman at Indian Springs, was just three strokes away from a top five and eight away from second place Elsa Mefford of Carlinville.
While Kistner was the only Hillsboro player to make the top 12, the three other returnees from last year's team were all within ten strokes of the 11th and final all-conference spot.
All three also made big improvements over their scores from a year ago. Meagan Jorn shot a 110, down 11 strokes from last year, while Felisity Luevano shot a 114, 12 strokes better than 2018. Anna Colwell made the biggest jump, shooting a 113 on Monday to take 34 strokes off last year's score.
As a team, Hillsboro took 12 strokes off their score, going from a 451 to a 439, despite losing last year's conference medalist, Tess Saathoff, to graduation.
The progression of the older players is what Hillsboro's two freshmen will strive for in coming years as they made their conference tourney debuts on Monday. Alex Frailey finished her round with a 126, while Aurelie Granito finished with a 150.
The Lady Hiltoppers will look to continue their strides on Thursday, Oct. 10, when they play in the Okaw Valley Regional at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Findlay.
