The Lincolnwood boys golf team pulled off a pair of sweeps on Sept. 21 and 22 to push their victory total over the 20-win mark for the season.
On Monday, the Lancers shot a 179 to beat Rochester by ten and Taylorville by 26 at Lakeshore Golf Course, the Tornadoes’ home course.
All six Lincolnwood players shot 50 or better for the day, with just eight strokes separating the number one and number six players. The Lancers would have 15 pars on the day, including six on the par-3 13th hole.
Devin Brown would be low man for the Lancers, shooting a 42 with four pars to not only lead his team, but also take medalist honors for the match.
Nate Brockmeyer would add in a 45 with three pars, while Michael Jones and Michael Graham contributed scoring rounds with a pair of 46s.
Will Jenkins and Braxton Schmedeke would have had scoring rounds for either of their opponents, but settled for being the Lancers’ fifth and sixth men with matching rounds of 50.
At Country Hills
The Lancers would pick up three more wins on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Country Hills Golf Course in Greenview with similar precession to their win on Monday.
With just seven strokes separating their top six players, Lincolnwood shot a 178 to beat Havana by 20 strokes, Greenview by 28 strokes and Mt. Pulaski by 63 strokes.
Even without their top two scorers the Lancers would have won the match, with their bottom four shooting a 189.
The top spot for the team, and for the match, went to Nate Brockmeyer, who had three pars and a birdie to finish with a 42. Two of Brockmeyer’s pars came on the first and second hole, with a birdie on the par-4 third hole finishing out a strong run on the front part of the course.
Lincolnwood players would take four of the top five spots, with Jacob Baldwin of Havana the only outsider, shooting a 43 to finish second to Brockmeyer.
Michael Jones would place third with a 44, posting four pars on the day, while Will Jenkins was one stroke back with a 45 and a pair of pars.
Devin Brown, who birdied the par-5 first hole, finished the day with a 47, while Michael Grahm and Braxton Schmedeke added in the fifth and sixth scores for Lincolnwood with a 48 and 49 respectively.
As good as the Lancers were, the shot of the day went to Nathan Kleiss, who aced the par-3 sixth hole. The sophomore from Athens (Greenview’s co-op partner) finished the round with a 51.
The Lancers will have the rest of the week off from matches, with their next bout coming on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at Edgewood Golf Course in Auburn against the host Trojans, North Mac and West Central.
