Lancers 3rd, Toppers 4th At Staunton

Posted

It was a beautiful day out on the course on Monday, Sept. 21, as the Hillsboro and Lincolnwood girls golf teams teed off with Carlinville and Staunton at Timber Lakes Golf Course.

The day would be even better for the Lady Cavaliers as they picked up a win over their three opponents, shooting a 184 and claiming medalist honors with Elsa Mefford’s 3-over-par 39.

Staunton would take second on their home course with a 203, while Lincolnwood and Hillsboro followed with a 216 and a 251 respectively.

While the Lancers weren’t on top of their game on Monday, they did have a few solid rounds at the challenging course in Staunton.

Dorie Krager paced the Lancers with a 49, posting pars on the par-5 second hole and the par-4 eighth hole, while Jordyn Gerlach was two strokes behind her teammate with a 51, highlighted by a par on the sixth hole and a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole.

Marisa Webb and Micah Gehlbach would contribute the other two scoring rounds with a 57 and a 59 respectively, while Jhia Walker and Kaylee Gerlach also played, adding in scores of 62 and 64. Like her sister, Gerlach also had a par in her round, sinking her put on the par-3 third hole for one of just two pars on the hole on the day.

With Meagan Jorn unable to attend, Hillsboro was led by Alex Frailey and Anna Colwell. Frailey would shoot a 59, with a par on the fifth hole, while Colwell would card a 61, with a par on the seventh hole.

Gracie Brink would add in a 64 for the Toppers, while Samantha Frailey finished with a 67. Aurelie Granito also played for the Toppers and finished with a 71.

While they finished fourth, Alex Frailey, Brink, Granito and Colwell all shaved strokes off their scores from when they played Timber Lakes on Aug. 18, with Colwell going from a 74 to a 61.

The Lady Hiltoppers will be in Vandalia today, Sept. 24, as they take on Greenville, Roxana and the host Vandals.

Lincolnwood returns to the course on Monday, Sept. 28, when they will face Auburn and South County at Edgewood Golf Club in Auburn.
