It's been a tough road for the Lincolnwood High School soccer team since the Lancers' last win on Sept. 17. The Lancers have lost five straight since their 9-1 victory over Vandalia two weeks ago, which had moved their overall record to 5-5-2 on the season.
The latest of the setbacks came on Monday, Sept. 30, against Athens, who handed Lincolnwood a 3-1 loss on the road, which moved the Lancers to 5-10-2 on the year.
The Lancers would be tied with the Warriors at halftime after Evan Hopper scored his 15th goal of the season, more than double than the total of his closest teammate.
While Hopper's goal would break a three game scoreless streak by the Lancers, it would be the only goal Lincolnwood would get in the game. Athens, on the other hand, would net two more scores to pick up their ninth win of the season.
Prior to the loss to the Warriors, Lincolnwood fell to a talented Riverton/Tri-City co-op team. The "Hawknadoes" would score a 4-0 victory over the Lancers at Terry Todt Field in Raymond on Saturday, Sept. 27, thanks in part to two goals from Seth Travernor.
The Lancers will have two opportunities to stop the skid before the end of the week as they take on Greenville on Oct. 3, in Raymond, followed by a Saturday, Oct. 5, tilt in Breese against the Breese Central Cougars.
