Lancers First, Toppers Third At Timber Lakes Match

The Lincolnwood girls golf team crept closer to win number 20 on the season with a sweep at Timber Lakes Golf Course on Monday, Sept. 23, to improve to 19-7.

The Lady Lancers took the top spot on the par-36 Staunton course with a 204, nine strokes better than second place Carlinville. The host Bulldogs would be third with a 228, while Hillsboro was fourth with a 236 and Gillespie was fifth with a 252.

The top individual spot eluded the Lancers as Carlinville's Elsa Mefford took medalist honors with a sparkling 38, which included an eagle on the par-5 second hole, but Lincolnwood would have three of the next five top scores.

Sydney Herman would shoot a solid 43 to join Mefford as one of two players to break 50 on the day. Herman had one triple bogey, but every other hole was a bogey or a par for the Lancer senior.

Stephanie Perun and Jordyn Gerlach would add a 52 and a 53 for the Lancers, while Dorie Krager was just four strokes outside of the top five with a 56. Micah Gehlbach and Shelby Hattenbach would also play for Lincolnwood, shooting a 60 and a 70 respectively.

Hillsboro would put two players in the top ten individually, with Meagan Jorn leading the way with a 54. Erin Kistner would be two strokes back with a 56, while Anna Colwell and Felisity Leuvano would chip in a 62 and a 64. Alex Frailey and Aurelie Granito would also play for Coach Adam Haston, shooting rounds of 64 and 68.

Lincolnwood and Hillsboro will be on the same course again on Thursday, Sept. 26, in Vandalia.
